LIFE-DIADEME project will be articulated in four phases: firstly, during the preliminary activities, preliminary tests will be finalised, and specific targets and parameters will be defined. Secondly, the demonstrator will be realised, tested and validated. Subsequently the environmental impacts and life cycle costs will be assessed, and finally we will conduct a well-targeted dissemination campaign.
ACTION A: Preparatory actions

Preparatory actions are fundamental for the project success where all parameters, targets, regulations and components will be defined. REVE will formalise quantitative targets and parameters. Also, laboratory tests will be finalized, especially regarding the integrated system performance and assessment with respect to the standards and we will preliminary evaluate the lighting performance of current local installations . Authorizations will be requested or finalised.
ACTION C Implementation actions

A pilot will be built, started-up and monitored, and the prototypes will be manufactured and tested.
Finally, the pilot will be assessed, fine-tuned and validated also in presence of relevant industrial and public stakeholders. The pilot will be finally validated in the Municipality of Rome.
ACTION D: Monitoring of the impact of the project actions

Relevant environmental indicators, i.e. energy consumption, luminance and safety will be monitored throughout the entire action. We will conduct a thorough: i) Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in order to assess the environmental impact of the project; ii) Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) to assess the environmental related savings brought to the public administrations. Preliminary market and socio- economic analyses will also be conducted.
ACTION E: Communication and dissemination of results

REVE will disseminate the project activities, impacts (socio-economic and environmental) and solutions at the national, EU and global scales. Relevant stakeholders will be actively involved, in particular the industry, academia, associations, public authorities and the wider audience.
ACTION F: Project management and monitoring of the project progress

The present action will consist of all the management and monitoring activities that will be conducted during the project, i.e. administrative tasks, contingency plan, technical and quality monitoring and reporting. Moreover, links will be established with the other on-going or past EU projects. An after-Life communication plan will be elaborated.

The information will be initially acquired by the sensor unit, and it will be transmitted via radio and power line, to the central control unit. The central unit will be then responsible of gathering all relevant information from the local units, elaborate the information and decide the best dimming strategy. The gathered data will be memorised in a centralised web-based server, and they will directly available to the public authorities and research institutions. An external operator will be finally provided with the real-time urban mapping of the territory in term of light level, power consumption, traffic level, noise level and air quality status.

Demonstration character of the project

The project is the result of extensive research conducted by REVE, with the focus of elaborating a novel eco-friendly intelligent dimming system. The consortium is thus highly committed in bringing the extensive research to a larger scale level, and it will realise a pilot for the sustainable LIFE- DIADEME lighting system. The pilot will allow to demonstrate and assess the project’s environmental and socio-economic impacts. 1000 luminaries equipped with a total of 50 sensors (1 sensor per 500m street) will be installed, tested and validated in the EUR area.

These results will be extremely important not only in terms of project validation, but also for successfully providing to the EU and global markets a novel smart lighting system that is much more sustainable with respect to the SOA. An important part of the present project will be the dissemination phase, where the project outcomes and results will be disseminated to the widest possible audience. Finally, after the end of the project, the consortium will proceed to the production and commercialisation phase, including market replication and transfer.
